Climbing to the summit of Pic Saint-Loup: the 2 classic paths
One cannot start this list other than with Pic Saint-Loup itself. Culminating at 658 meters, its summit is considered the best hike at Pic Saint-Loup, offering an exceptional panorama of the region. From its summit, you can admire the garrigue, the Cevennes to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, as well as the nearby Mount Hortus. On a clear day, the Pyrenees even appear on the horizon.
The classic route via Cazevieille (Ideal for families)
To access it, two routes are possible. The first is the most direct. From the Cazevieille parking lot, follow the red and white markers. The itinerary is simple, a round trip on the same path. The hike has the advantage of being shaded for most of the route, surrounded by the garrigue.
Please note: although popular with families because the route is short, the trail is very rocky from the start. Progression requires vigilance. The last quarter hour climbs significantly and requires using your hands a few times to cross the final rocky steps before the ridge.
The climb via the ridges (For sports enthusiasts)
For the second one, still from the parking lot, take the Chemin de Tourriere to the right. Follow the marked trails in blue and yellow, staying attentive to the junctions, until the Pas de la Pousterle. You can then choose to climb to the summit of Pic Saint-Loup via the ridges (difficult and dizzying itinerary) or via the GR®60 (safer but rocky trail). Then descend via the GR®60 to return to the starting point.

The Legend of Pic Saint-Loup: Loup, Guiral, and Clair
Pic Saint-Loup takes its name from the legend of the Three Hermits. It tells the story of three knight brothers, Loup, Guiral, and Clair, all in love with the same woman, a young and beautiful lady whose heart hesitated between them. Unable to decide between their love, they decided to let her choose the one she would like to marry. But before she could make her choice, the young woman fell seriously ill and died, leaving the three brothers inconsolable.
Broken by pain, they decided to renounce worldly life and each took the path of the hermitage, retreating to different peaks to live as recluses. Loup settled on the peak that today bears his name, the Pic Saint-Loup; Guiral settled on Mount Saint-Guiral in the Cevennes, and Clair chose Mount Saint-Clair in Sete.
The region is rich in biodiversity, with endemic plant species like the Cevennes Saxifrage, meadows full of orchids, and raptors such as the kestrel or the European bee-eater. Its reliefs also offer panoramas and remarkable nature, attracting both hiking enthusiasts and lovers of wild spaces.
